The East Jakarta municipal government has taken firm action by sealing numerous padel courts that fail to comply with regulations. One padel court was sealed for operating under a residential boarding house permit.

The padel court sealed for licensing violations is located in Kebon Pala Village, Makasar District. The facility at Jalan Kolonel Sutomo 1 Number 22 previously held a boarding house permit issued in 2018. However, the building was subsequently repurposed and operated as a padel court.

According to Munjirin, this is the eighth building sealed in East Jakarta as part of enforcement efforts against padel courts operating without proper permits. Permanent sealing was also carried out on a padel court in the Pulomas area, Kayu Putih Village, Pulogadung District, East Jakarta.

“We have carried out re-sealing. We had previously sealed it. Secondly, we have issued a warning letter requiring permanent sealing of this building,” said Wiwit Djalu Adji, head of the East Jakarta Sub-agency for Public Works, Spatial Planning and Land Affairs (CKTRP), after installing a notice board at the Pulomas padel court location on Thursday, 26 February.

This action was taken due to detected non-compliance with building permits and the absence of a functional fitness certificate (SLF).

Officials posted notification banners at the location to indicate that the building would be permanently sealed. The banner also served as public notice that padel court operations had been temporarily suspended.

The banner read “This building is subject to permanent suspension (sealed)”. It also noted that the padel court had violated Law Number 6 of 2023, Government Regulation Number 16 of 2021, and/or Government Regulation Number 21 of 2021.

A total of 27 of 57 padel courts in East Jakarta currently lack proper permits. Consequently, dozens of these padel courts have been forced to close. “In total, there are approximately 57 padel courts in East Jakarta, and approximately 27 lack permits, whilst 30 already have proper permits,” said East Jakarta Mayor Munjirin at Jalan Kolonel Sutomo, Kebon Pala, Makasar, East Jakarta, as reported by Antara on Thursday, 12 February.

As part of enforcement efforts, the East Jakarta municipal government, through the Sub-agency for Public Works, Spatial Planning and Land Affairs (CKTRP), is conducting monitoring and enforcement action against padel courts violating regulations. Padel courts lacking permits or misusing permits and violating applicable provisions will be sealed and subject to further action.

“We continue to monitor the rapid development of padel courts in East Jakarta. We will follow up on violations,” said Munjirin. Monitoring of sports facilities will continue to be conducted by the CKTRP sub-agency together with local authorities.

“The CKTRP sub-agency of East Jakarta, together with relevant stakeholders, will continue to monitor and conduct enforcement operations as carried out this morning,” he stated.

He also requested district and village officials to actively monitor construction activities in their areas and promptly report any violations discovered. Following building sealing, the CKTRP district office, together with the local village government, will conduct regular monitoring to ensure no activities violate regulations.

Through these measures, Munjirin hopes that sports facility development in his region can proceed in an orderly manner and in accordance with applicable spatial planning and licensing regulations.
