Padel Court in East Jakarta Sealed for Operating Without Permit, But Will Not Be Demolished
Jakarta, Kompas.com — The Sub-department of Public Works, Spatial Planning, and Land (Sudin Citata) of East Jakarta has announced that a sealed padel court located in Kebon Pala, Makasar, East Jakarta, will not be demolished despite lacking proper authorization.
Acting Head of Sudin Citata East Jakarta, Maulani Pane, explained that building demolition is not possible due to budget constraints.
“Perhaps we will later restore its function in accordance with the permit that was previously issued, which was for a boarding house,” Maulani stated at the location on Thursday, 12 March 2026.
Maulani noted that under Governor Pramono Anung’s regulations, the site cannot continue operating as a padel court because its location is too close to residential dwellings.
“This is too close to residents’ homes,” she said.
Maulani added that the construction of the boarding house, which had been authorized by the original permit, should have begun two years ago, but the process never reached completion.
“Eventually it was opened as a padel court instead,” she explained.
Previously, the East Jakarta Municipal Government sealed a padel court on Jalan Kolonel Sutomo, Kebon Pala Village, Makasar District, East Jakarta, on Thursday, 12 March 2026.
East Jakarta Mayor Munjirin stated that the building permit was issued in 2018 for constructing a boarding house.
“But the actual structure built was a padel court. This means there is a functional misuse of the permit, which was diverted to build a padel court,” Munjirin said at the location on Thursday, 12 March 2026.
This sealing marks the eighth padel court closure action taken by Sudin Citata East Jakarta against problematic facilities. East Jakarta has a total of 57 padel courts.
“Approximately 27 are operating without permits, while 30 have proper authorization,” he said.
