Padang to host paragliding event

PADANG, West Sumatra: At least 15 athletes from nine countries
and 40 local athletes are slated to participate in an Airwave Fly
for Fun event, a paragliding competition, which will take place
in Agam district, West Sumatra province from May 16 to May 23, a
spokesman said.

The Minister of Culture and Tourism, I Gde Ardika, is expected
to open the 2004 Airwave Fly for Fun event, organizing committee
member Anwar Soerjomataram, said here on Monday.

The event is aimed at promoting tourist resorts in Agam
district, about 100 kilometers north of the West Sumatra
provincial capital of Padang, Anwar cited. He said that the Fly
for Fun event was sponsored by Austria's parachute maker Airwave.
