Two individuals, including a university student, were rushed to hospital following an incident involving suspected stray bullets at the Padang State University (UNP) campus in Padang, West Sumatra, on Tuesday evening. Observations indicate that the campus is currently under heavy security by authorities. In addition to the university, Hermina Padang Hospital, where the two victims are being treated, is also under strict surveillance.

While detailed explanations regarding the incident have not yet been provided, university officials have confirmed that a student was injured. “It is true that a UNP student was allegedly hit by stray bullets,” said the Secretary of UNP, Erianjoni, to reporters.

He noted that one victim is a student and the other is a member of the student’s family. The injured student is from the Sociology department. “The victim is a sociology student, and the other victim is a family member who was waiting,” he explained.

Erianjoni stated that the suspected stray bullet incident occurred around the Rectorate area after students were celebrating the results of their proposal seminar examinations. “The students had just finished their Proposal Seminars and were celebrating joyfully with their peers. Then, they were hit by stray bullets. The student is female. The other victim appears to be a family member waiting for their sibling,” he added.

At present, the university administration is accompanying the student, who is believed to have been hit by the stray bullets, at a hospital to ensure they receive intensive medical care.
