Pariaman — The Padang Pariaman Regency Government in West Sumatra continues to pursue accelerated recovery from the hydrometeorological disaster that occurred several months ago.

“To accelerate this, we hope for support from the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) through rehabilitation and reconstruction programmes, so that the post-disaster recovery process in Padang Pariaman can proceed faster,” said Padang Pariaman Regent John Kenedy Azis at Parik Malintang on Tuesday.

He noted that financial support for rehabilitation and reconstruction from the central government through the BNPB is needed given that several areas in Padang Pariaman were affected by the disaster, which damaged infrastructure and disrupted residents’ economic activities.

He further stated that this demonstrates that the Padang Pariaman Regency Government still requires budgetary intervention from the central government to accelerate the recovery of life for affected communities and restore normal conditions.

In addition to advocating for infrastructure damaged by the hydrometeorological disaster that occurred in late 2025, the Padang Pariaman Regency Government is also continuing to seek support from the BNPB to obtain grant funds to construct Sikabu Bridge in Lubuk Alung District.

This is because the bridge is vital infrastructure serving as a lifeline for the mobility and economy of the local population.

John conveyed that in the effort to accelerate post-disaster recovery in the region, he and regional government organisations in Padang Pariaman held an audience with the BNPB secretary on Monday (9 March).

At that time, the BNPB reiterated its commitment to continue coordinating with the local government in efforts to accelerate post-disaster recovery.

It is known that due to the hydrometeorological disaster that occurred several months ago, Padang Pariaman suffered losses of approximately 5 trillion rupiah, prompting the submission of an infrastructure repair funding request to the central government of around 3.2 trillion rupiah.
