Padang Panjang City Government Builds 10 Permanent Homes for Flash Flood Victims
PEMERINTAH Kota Padang Panjang continues to accelerate rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts following the galodo (flash flood) disaster through the construction of 10 permanent homes (huntap) for affected residents. The initiative was marked by a groundbreaking ceremony in the area of Rusunawa, Tanah Hitam Village, on Friday (12/6).
The groundbreaking was conducted by Mayor Hendri Arnis, accompanied by Deputy Mayor Allex Saputra. The event was also attended by elements of the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda), leaders from Bank Nagari and BRI, representatives of PT Semen Padang, and several other invited guests.
The construction of the permanent homes is a collaboration between the City Government and PT Semen Padang, utilising SepaBlock or interlocking brick technology produced by Semen Padang as the primary building material.
Deputy Mayor Allex Saputra expressed his appreciation to all parties who contributed to supporting the construction. He stated that the presence of permanent homes is a crucial part of providing certainty of safe and decent housing for disaster-affected residents.
“The construction of permanent homes that we are starting today is not just about building houses, but also about building hope, a sense of security, and a better future for the disaster-affected community,” he said.
Allex stated that this third phase of permanent home construction is a strategic step by the Regional Government to complete the post-disaster management process that has been underway for some time. According to him, if the construction proceeds according to plan and all units are completed within the next few months, the City Government will be closer to completing one of its priority recovery programmes for the affected community.
“This is part of the City Government’s commitment to providing protection and ensuring the community has decent housing. We hope the construction process runs smoothly so that it can be utilised by the beneficiaries as soon as possible,” he said.
A total of 10 permanent homes are being built with a budget of approximately Rp80 million per unit and are targeted for completion within two months. Through this development, the City Government hopes the post-disaster recovery process can proceed more quickly, allowing affected residents to return to a more comfortable, safe, and productive life.
