Trading activity at Padang Panjang Central Market has begun to increase ahead of Eid al-Fitr celebrations. The market reorganisation undertaken by the Padang Panjang City Government through consolidating all traders within the market area is seen as positively impacting visitor comfort and boosting commercial activity.

This was evident during a market inspection by Mayor Hendri Arnis on the evening of Tuesday, 10 March. As the market enters the ten-day countdown to Eid, residents have begun flocking to the market to purchase various holiday necessities.

The market reorganisation initiative has received positive responses from traders. With more orderly market conditions, visitors are deemed more comfortable shopping, allowing business activity to gradually resume.

Dinda, a textile merchant on the third floor of Block A, expressed gratitude as the market atmosphere has begun to recover. She noted that residents are increasingly coming to purchase Eid necessities.

“Praise be, residents have started coming to shop. We are starting to feel the buying and selling activity. Hopefully, as Eid approaches, the market will become even more crowded and our goods will sell well,” she said.

Similar sentiments were shared by Mansyur, a children’s clothing merchant on the second floor of Block A. He viewed the city government’s market reorganisation as a sound policy that has made the market cleaner and more comfortable.

“The city government’s market reorganisation efforts are excellent. The market has become more orderly and comfortable. Praise be, buyers have also started arriving,” he said.

Ahmad Rido, owner of a shoe and sandal shop on the second floor of Block A, stated that the policy of incorporating seasonal traders into the market area has had positive effects on commercial activity.

“Buyers are already becoming more numerous. With seasonal traders being brought into the market, more people enter. Hopefully, as Eid approaches, goods will sell well,” he said.

Appreciation also came from Afandi, a seasonal koko shirt merchant on the third floor of Block A. He hopes that the government’s efforts will not only enliven the market during specific occasions but also sustain commercial activity throughout the year.

“We greatly appreciate the city government’s initiative. In the future, we hope there will be sustained efforts to keep Padang Panjang Central Market busy, not just on certain days,” he said.

Similar views were expressed by Dani, a seasonal jersey merchant on the third floor of Block A. He believes the government’s market reorganisation has made market conditions appear neater and more comfortable for visitors.

During his market inspection, Mayor Hendri Arnis stated that market reorganisation is part of the municipal government’s commitment to revitalising the centre of economic activity in Padang Panjang Central Market.

“We want Padang Panjang Central Market to truly become the centre of community economic activity. With an orderly market and traders operating within it, residents will be more comfortable shopping. Our hope is that trader economic circulation will continue to increase, especially ahead of Eid,” he said.

Hendri also hopes that all parties, both traders and residents, will work together to maintain market order, cleanliness and comfort so that Padang Panjang Central Market continues to develop as a busy commercial centre and become a source of community pride.
