Padang Mayor Sends Rendang Aid to NTT Earthquake Victims
The Mayor of Padang, Fadly Amran, has officially dispatched a shipment of rendang to assist victims of the earthquake that struck East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province on 15 August 2026.
The send-off took place at Minangkabau International Airport (BIM) in Padang Pariaman Regency on Saturday, 22 August 2026. The aid was transported aboard a TNI Air Force Hercules aircraft to Halim Perdanakusuma Airport in Jakarta before being forwarded to the affected areas.
The event was attended by the Head of the Padang City Social Service, Eri Sendjaya; Padang City DPRD member M. Fautiaz Fauzi; Chairman of the Minangkabau Traditional Council (LKAAM) of West Sumatra, Fauzi Bahar; the Minangkabau Rendang Entrepreneurs Association (Hipermi); and the National Amil Zakat Agency (Baznas) of Padang City.
Fadly Amran, who also serves as Chairman of the Regional Leadership Council of the Minangkabau Economic and Cultural Movement (DPW Gebu Minang) of West Sumatra, expressed appreciation to Gebu Minang West Sumatra, LKAAM West Sumatra, and Hipermi for initiating the aid shipment.
According to Fadly, an initial shipment of rendang was sent on 17 August 2026. The latest dispatch was made as a demonstration of the concern of the people of West Sumatra for the residents of NTT who are facing a disaster.
“We also express our gratitude to the Padang City DPRD, Sutan Sjahrir Air Base, and all parties who have assisted. We have received information that a further 500 kilograms of rendang will be sent after this. Hopefully, in the near future, we can reach the target of 5 tonnes as has been set,” said Fadly.
He expressed hope that the aid would help meet food needs while easing the burden on the people of NTT affected by the earthquake.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of LKAAM West Sumatra, Fauzi Bahar, said that Gebu Minang and LKAAM West Sumatra had succeeded in collecting 3.6 tonnes of aid. He thanked all parties who had contributed to the collection and dispatch process.
“We from Gebu Minang are very grateful to the Mayor of Padang, who has been so aggressive in mobilising the community. We hope this aid can help the thousands of people in NTT who have been affected by the earthquake and are currently displaced,” said Fauzi.
Fauzi explained that rendang was chosen as humanitarian aid because it is a ready-to-eat food that is easy to consume and has a relatively long shelf life. These characteristics make rendang suitable for sending to communities in disaster-affected areas.
This collaboration between the regional government, community organisations, businesses, and the public represents a show of solidarity from the people of West Sumatra towards the people of NTT. The collection of aid will continue until the target of 5 tonnes of rendang is reached.
