Padang Mayor Inaugurates Temporary Shelters for Disaster Survivors in Lambung Bukit

The Mayor of Padang, Fadly Amran, inaugurated Healthy and Liveable Temporary Shelters (Hunsela) for hydrometeorological disaster survivors in Lambung Bukit Subdistrict, Pauh District, on Wednesday, 15 July 2026. A total of 18 units, comprising 15 in the Rimbo Panjang area and three in Gerbang Langit, have begun to be occupied by residents who lost their homes due to flash floods and landslides that struck the region at the end of 2025. Mayor Fadly stated that the presence of Hunsela serves as a temporary solution to provide healthy, safe, and liveable housing for affected residents, while also supporting the acceleration of post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction until permanent housing (Huntap) can be realised. He congratulated the residents moving into the shelters and expressed hope that the temporary housing would offer comfort and mark a good start for recovery after the disaster. The Mayor affirmed that the Padang City Government is committed to overseeing the entire post-disaster recovery process, from fulfilling the basic needs of survivors to completing the construction of permanent homes. The city administration will also expedite the provision of supporting facilities in the Hunsela area, such as road access and clean water networks. He noted that the government will continue to seek solutions for residents who have not yet obtained permanent housing, including through corporate social responsibility programmes and support from philanthropists, and has instructed relevant regional apparatus organisations to immediately address the infrastructure needs. Fadly also expressed appreciation to the Central Executive Board of the Andalas University Alumni Association (DPP IKA Unand), the Association of Women Cares for Disaster, Unbrah, the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of Andalas University, and various donors who collaborated to realise the construction of the Hunsela for disaster survivors in Padang City. He said this cross-sector collaboration is proof of the strong spirit of mutual cooperation in helping disaster-affected communities. Chair of the Hunsela Construction Committee for Rimbo Panjang and Gerbang Langit, Mairawita, added that by mid-2026, a total of 38 Hunsela units had been built in stages as transitional housing for hydrometeorological disaster survivors. She emphasised that the Hunsela is not only a temporary residence but also a symbol of care and the spirit of gotong royong, with the hope that all survivors will eventually be able to own safe and liveable permanent homes. Mairawita also confirmed that all Hunsela units are built on land with no status or ownership issues, which is expected to facilitate the construction of permanent housing in the future.
