Padang Mayor Fadly Amran attended the groundbreaking ceremony for independent permanent housing (Huntap) alongside BNPB’s Chief of Staff Rustian in Kuranji Ward, Kuranji District, on Tuesday, 7 April 2026. This independent Huntap project marks the initial step in constructing permanent residences for disaster-affected communities who opt to build on their own land. Fadly Amran expressed appreciation to BNPB for the support provided to Padang’s residents post-disaster, encompassing both social assistance and economic recovery efforts. “We thank BNPB. Numerous aids have been distributed, from emergency response to support for affected SMEs. Today, independent permanent housing serves as an alternative for residents wishing to build on their own land,” stated Fadly Amran. He explained that the government offers several choices to affected communities, either through centralised Huntap construction or independent builds tailored to each family’s needs and circumstances. “Residents can choose whether to occupy government-provided Huntap or construct on their own land as in this case. This certainly allows them to stay closer to their sources of livelihood, such as gardens, fields, or other businesses,” he added. Fadly Amran also praised the contributions from various parties, including the local coordination forum (Forkopimda) and PT Semen Padang, which introduced construction technology innovations via sepablock products noted for their speed and disaster resistance. BNPB’s Chief of Staff Rustian noted that the independent Huntap construction in Padang is the second in West Sumatra, following a previous implementation in Padang Pariaman. “This independent Huntap build in Padang is the second in West Sumatra. It results from the swift actions of the city government alongside relevant agencies. We will also employ sepablock technology from the Semen Indonesia Group as it is standardised and earthquake-friendly,” he said. Fadly Amran affirmed that currently, 43 units of independent Huntap have been proposed, with approximately 36 residents having submitted their administrative requirements. He hopes this number will continue to grow as public interest in independent construction increases. The event was also attended by PT Semen Padang’s Operations Director Andria Delfa, Chairman of the Padang LMP DPD Irwan Basir Datuak Rajo Alam, Acting Secretary of Padang City Raju Minropa, Head of Padang BPBD Hendri Zulviton, Kuranji Sub-District Head Rido Satria, and Koto Tangah Sub-District Head Fizlan Setiawan.
