Padang Launches Market Operation for Minyakita Cooking Oil

The Padang City Trade Office began a special market operation for Minyakita cooking oil on Wednesday (17/6), starting at Pasar Raya and Pasar Bandar Buat. The initiative aims to maintain price stability, control inflation, and ensure distribution amid high public demand. Head of the Basic and Essential Goods Control Division, Edrian Edward, stated the programme is a collaboration with producers such as Indofood and Bulog, and will be rolled out gradually across nine markets until 30 June 2026. “This low-cost market specifically for Minyakita is being held to maintain price stability, control inflation, and ensure distribution of Minyakita, which has recently been scarce. Alhamdulillah, in Padang City we are striving to keep supply secure through market operations in nine markets,” Edrian Edward said on Thursday (18/6). During the operation, Minyakita is sold at Rp15,000 per litre, below the highest retail price of Rp15,700. The policy is expected to ease the burden on residents, particularly housewives, while demonstrating the government’s presence in meeting essential needs. Edrian explained the operation began on 17 June at two markets and will continue at other locations, concluding at Pasar Blimbing on 30 June. Schedules, locations, and prices have been publicised through market unit heads, social media, and flyers to encourage public participation. The city government hopes the operation will make Minyakita more accessible and help stabilise the supply and prices of essential goods across Padang.
