Padang BPBD Evacuates Residents from Flood-Hit Areas

Padang (ANTARA) - Personnel from the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Padang, West Sumatra, evacuated dozens of residents trapped at a flood site on Monday.

“The evacuation was carried out so that residents could be brought out of the flooded area and moved to a safe place,” said Head of Padang BPBD Hendri Zulviton in Padang.

He said the evacuation process was carried out by Padang BPBD in Kuranji District, specifically at Lapau Manggu, RT 002/RW006.

It was reported that around 35 households (KK) at the location required evacuation given the situation in the neighbourhood.

Water had submerged residential roads and entered residents’ homes as a result of prolonged, heavy rainfall.

He said the evacuation was carried out using rubber boats, assisted by local residents and other joint agencies.

Officers prioritised the evacuation of the elderly, children, pregnant women, and other vulnerable groups.

Padang BPBD urged the public to remain vigilant against potential hydrometeorological disasters triggered by heavy rain, such as fallen trees, standing water, floods, landslides in hilly areas, and strong winds that could endanger safety.

BPBD also reminded the public to continue monitoring official weather information from the BMKG and to promptly report any disaster events through the Padang City BPBD emergency service so that response can be carried out more quickly.
