KUALA LUMPUR (AFP): Army chiefs of Pacific countries will gather in Kuala Lumpur next week to discuss security challenges and foster deeper cooperation in the new millennium, officials said on Saturday.
The theme of the second Pacific Armies Chiefs Conference, a biennial defense forum starting on Monday, is "Challenges of Inter-Operability in the New Millennium," said a Malaysian defense ministry official.
Invitations have gone out to the army chiefs of 17 countries and 12 have confirmed attendance, he told AFP.
The 12 were from Australia, Bangladesh, Brunei, Canada, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, South Korea, Singapore, Thailand and the United States.
