P2MI Ministry Targets Higher Quality Placements for Indonesian Migrant Workers by 2027

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers Mukhtarudin has affirmed his ministry’s commitment to improving the quality of Indonesian migrant worker (PMI) placements by 2027, in line with the rising number of workers deployed abroad.

“Going forward, we are not only pursuing an increase in the number of placements, but also the quality of placements,” Minister Mukhtarudin told ANTARA after attending the government’s introductory statement on the 2027 State Budget Bill and its Financial Note at the Nusantara Building, Parliament Complex, Jakarta, on Friday.

Mukhtarudin said that improving the quality of PMI placements is being pursued by increasing the number of migrant workers employed in the formal sector and who possess skills and competency certifications.

Through these efforts, he continued, Indonesian migrant workers will have greater opportunities to obtain jobs with good working conditions, while increasing their income potential and the remittances they generate.

According to his records, PMI placements continue to show positive results. Based on placement service data in the Computerised System for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (SISKOP2MI) in 2024, as many as 297,433 migrant workers received placement services.

Meanwhile, in 2025, services were received by 296,948 PMIs. Thus, over those two years the P2MI Ministry has recorded nearly 600,000 PMI placement services.

On the other hand, based on Bank Indonesia data, the number of PMIs working abroad increased from around 3.9 million people in 2024 to 4.06 million people in 2025.

“This shows that the role of PMIs abroad continues to grow,” said Mukhtarudin.

In terms of economic contribution, PMI remittances have also increased significantly. Their value rose from around Rp253 trillion in 2024 to Rp288 trillion in 2025, or growth of about 14 percent.

“This figure shows that PMIs not only provide benefits for families in their home regions, but also make a major contribution to the national economy,” said Mukhtarudin.

As for PMI placements, Indonesia has now opened and developed cooperation with various destination countries, both through Government to Government (G to G), Government to Private (G to P), and other placement schemes.
