The Ministry of Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (P2MI) has stated it is ready to facilitate the recruitment process for Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) to meet labour demand in the healthcare sector in New Brunswick, Canada. This was conveyed by Deputy Minister of P2MI Christina Aryani after receiving a visit from the Indonesian Ambassador to Canada, Muhsin Syihab, at the ministry’s office on Monday. “There is a need for healthcare workers in New Brunswick. The recruitment process is planned to begin in November 2026, with a placement target in the second quarter of 2027, and we are ready to help facilitate this process,” Christina said in a P2MI Ministry press release in Jakarta on Monday. According to her, this healthcare sector cooperation opportunity holds strategic value as it could become a model for developing PMI placement cooperation with other provinces in Canada. “The Ambassador expressed his hope that cooperation with New Brunswick could become a prototype or benchmark that can later be replicated and offered to other provinces in Canada. We certainly support this effort,” she said. The Deputy Minister explained that the healthcare labour market in Canada has so far been dominated by workers from the Philippines, who have a strong placement network. “Therefore, Indonesia needs to seize the existing opportunities by preparing competent workers who meet the required standards,” she said. In addition to the healthcare sector, the ministry is also encouraging the Indonesian Embassy in Ottawa to help identify placement opportunities in other sectors in Canada that require PMI. “We need to open pilot projects so that Indonesia can become better known and able to penetrate the Canadian job market,” she said. She stated the ministry will continue to strengthen synergy with all Indonesian representatives abroad to open new, quality job markets. “The hope is that more PMI can access jobs that are safe, legal, and provide added value for improving their competence and welfare,” she said.
