P2MI Minister celebrates Independence Day, affirms migrant workers as national economic heroes
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (P2MI) Mukhtarudin, while celebrating the 81st anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia on Monday (17/8), affirmed that Indonesian migrant workers play the role of the nation’s economic heroes.
“Independence Day is a reminder that the state must be present for all its people without exception. Indonesian migrant workers are the nation’s economic heroes. Ensuring their safety, justice, and welfare is a tangible form of realising a sovereign Indonesia,” said Mukhtarudin.
In his statement in Jakarta on Monday, the P2MI Minister viewed the independence momentum as an important foundation for strengthening the state’s commitment to protecting and honouring the “family warriors” across the globe.
According to the P2MI Minister, the theme of the 81st anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia in 2026, namely “A Sovereign, Just, and Prosperous Indonesia” as set by the government, reflects the direction of development towards self-reliance, justice, and prosperity.
The essence of independence and the spirit of that theme, Mukhtarudin explained, should not only be felt by the people at home but must also reach all Indonesian migrant workers who are striving abroad.
He invited all Indonesians to use this momentum to strengthen unity and mutual cooperation in facing global challenges.
“With unity, hard work, and a commitment to the people’s interests, we are optimistic that Indonesia will become stronger, more self-reliant, sovereign, just, and prosperous,” he said.
He also expressed hope that the spirit of independence would continue to inspire all elements of the nation to make their best contribution to Indonesia.
“Let us use this spirit of independence to keep moving forward, strengthen collaboration, and ensure that all Indonesian migrant workers are protected from upstream to downstream in order to realise a sovereign, just, and prosperous Indonesia,” said the P2MI Minister.
