At least 10 people were killed after an oxygen cylinder exploded inside an ambulance parked at a government-run health facility in southern Pakistan on Thursday (29 October 2026). The victims included medical staff, a patient and patients’ relatives, according to police and hospital officials on Thursday.

District Police Chief Arif Aziz said the explosion occurred at night in Tharparkar District, Sindh Province.

Local police official Khalil Abro said several patients were being transferred to another hospital when the blast happened. One of those killed was a patient.

Photos and videos circulating on social media and shown on television depicted the ambulance engulfed in flames, with one of its doors open. Other images showed the vehicle’s charred frame outside a building, with people gathered nearby.

According to AP and local media, Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari expressed condolences over the deaths. In a statement from his office, he called for a swift and transparent investigation to establish the cause of the explosion.

Zardari also urged the authorities to tighten safety standards to prevent a similar incident from happening again. He offered his condolences to the victims’ families and wished those injured a speedy recovery.

The incident adds to the record of fatal accidents at health facilities in Pakistan. In August, a fire sparked by an air-conditioning unit explosion killed 14 newborn babies in the neonatal ward of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences in Islamabad.

The only baby rescued from the room later died several weeks afterwards, bringing the death toll in that incident to 15.
