Oxygen cylinder explodes at Cilincing gas refilling station, crashes onto resident's home
The Cilincing Police are investigating the case of an oxygen cylinder explosion at a gas refilling site on Jalan Cilincing Raya, North Jakarta, which damaged a resident’s home. The incident occurred when workers were refilling a six-cubic-metre oxygen cylinder. The cylinder was suddenly hurled into the air accompanied by a loud blast, damaging the asbestos roof of the refilling facility. The cylinder then fell onto a residential house and grocery stall belonging to a resident on Jalan Baru Gang 2 Dalam, Cilincing, located approximately 100 metres from the refilling site. At the time of the incident, the homeowner, Ahmad Suyono, and his wife, Maryam, were in the stall at the front of the house. Both were shocked when the oxygen cylinder struck the building’s roof, damaging several parts of the house and the shop’s display cases. Fortunately, there were no fatalities or injuries in the incident. However, the resulting damage is classified as quite severe and has caused psychological trauma to the occupants. The value of material losses is still being assessed. Upon receiving information about the incident, local police immediately visited the location to conduct checks and secure the crime scene. Officers carried out a series of police actions, including securing the location, installing a police line, taking statements from witnesses, documenting the damage, and preparing reports for further investigation. Authorities have urged all companies operating in the high-pressure gas filling and storage sector to consistently implement strict occupational safety standards to prevent similar occurrences that could endanger workers and the surrounding community.
