Oxen up for grabs

BANYUMAS, Central Java: Regent Djoko Sudantoko has promised to give oxen to election officials in each of the 1,000 polling booths across the district if Golkar wins at least 90 percent of the votes.

Each ox costs Rp 1.5 million (US$625) and will be made available after the election, which falls on May 29, he said Tuesday.

If the regent fulfills his promise, he would have to make available about Rp 1.5 billion for the gifts.

"No problem. The funds are ready," he said. (wah)
