JAKARTA — The owner of the Bibi Kelinci restaurant, Nabilah O’Brien, has been named a suspect on charges of defamation and slander on social media. She was reported to the Indonesian Police’s Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) by a husband-and-wife pair who had previously been suspected of taking food from her restaurant without paying. Her legal counsel, Goldie Natasya Swarovski, described the designation as a suspect as unusual because the process appeared swift. According to Goldie, two days before the suspect status was announced, her client was still undergoing questioning. She argued that the designation was inappropriate because her client’s post on social media consisted only of CCTV footage showing what actually happened, and that the posting could not be considered defamation since it contained factual events. Furthermore, Goldie said the complainants had already admitted their actions in a formal demand letter, which also sought damages of Rp 1 billion from Nabilah. ‘Our client did not meet any criminal elements at all! There was no malice to attack the honour,’ Goldie asserted. She added that when uploading the CCTV footage, Nabilah did not know the identities of the people suspected of taking the food and had directed expletives at her staff. Separately, the couple identified by the initials ZK and ERS were also named suspects by the Mampang Prapatan Police Station under Nabilah’s report on 24 February 2026. The Mampang Prapatan Police Station chief, AKP Dian Purnomo, said the police had scheduled examinations for the two suspects on Monday, 9 March 2026. However, examinations were postponed after their lawyers filed a postponement request. ‘The suspects are scheduled for examination on Monday, 9 March 2026, but their lawyers have sent a postponement request,’ Dian told Kompas.com.
