Overwhelming Workload and Endless Duty Hours: The Heavy Burden on DKI Satpol PP Personnel
JAKARTA — A high workload combined with long duty hours is said to pose a serious challenge for personnel of the Satuan Polisi Pamong Praja (Satpol PP) in DKI Jakarta.
In the past nearly one year, 35 members have been reported dead. This situation is linked to the heavy burden of field duties and limited support facilities.
Head of Satpol PP DKI Jakarta, Satriadi Gunawan, stated that the high workload with long overtime durations makes officers vulnerable to health problems.
Satriadi emphasised that the high number is not caused by leadership factors, but rather the heavy workload and extraordinary limitations in field facilities and infrastructure.
“I have been the head of Satpol PP for almost a year. So, almost 35 of my members have passed away. Not because of the head, sir, but because of the conditions: the workload and the infrastructure out there are extraordinary,” said Satriadi during a meeting with Commission A of the DKI DPRD at the DKI DPRD Building, Thursday (23/4/2026).
These limitations result in an uneven distribution of work relative to operational needs in the field.
The low number of personnel directly impacts the length of members’ working hours. In certain conditions, officers must work for extremely long durations.
“The workload is not proportionate to the number of personnel. There are members who work up to 36 hours,” he explained.
Currently, many Satpol PP members are forced to rest in prayer rooms or the corridors of sub-district offices because adequate rest areas are not yet available.
“At the moment, they are still using the prayer room, sometimes the corridors,” he said.
The heavy working conditions are said to impact personnel health. Based on health examination results, many members suffer from high blood pressure due to fatigue.
“How can they work well the next day to carry out enforcement? Their blood pressure is all high. That’s why we did a check-up yesterday; the medical check-up showed extraordinarily high blood pressure,” Satriadi revealed.
According to him, such support is important so that members can work optimally without neglecting their health.
“We hope for support for facilities, especially rest areas, so that members can maintain their health and work more optimally,” said Satriadi.
