Overweight Truck Hits Construction Plate of Daan Mogot Pedestrian Bridge

Jakarta (ANTARA) - An Over Dimension Over Loading (ODOL) truck collided with a construction plate of the Daan Mogot pedestrian bridge (JPO) in Cengkreg, West Jakarta, on Tuesday afternoon.

The collision caused one of the pedestrian bridge’s construction plates to detach from its structural frame.

Slamet (40), a meatball vendor near the location, stated that the incident occurred around 5:00 PM WIB.

“There was a loud thud, like a ‘gedebuk’ sound. Then the plate fell,” Slamet told ANTARA at the scene on Tuesday night.

Fortunately, there were no casualties resulting from the incident. Slamet noted that officials, including the police, arrived at the location shortly after the event.

“It seems there were no victims. I am not sure where the police took the fallen plate,” said Slamet.

He added that the incident caused traffic congestion in the vicinity, as the large truck came to an abrupt halt and the fallen plate obstructed the roadway.

“Yes, there was traffic. Because they had to clear the part that fell,” said Slamet.

Although the detached plate was not a permanent part of the pedestrian bridge, there are concerns that the collision may have impacted the integrity of the ongoing construction structure.

“During the incident, the security guards were watching. I believe the construction workers were there fixing it,” said Slamet.

Observations at the scene at 8:00 PM WIB confirmed that the pedestrian bridge is currently undergoing renovation. Construction barriers were visible on one side of the bridge, specifically on the Daan Mogot side heading towards Kalideres.

The steel plates of the bridge stairs had also been removed, indicating that construction has been underway for some time. Meanwhile, the construction plate that detached due to the collision was seen placed on the floor of the pedestrian bridge.
