Overview of the Route for the Prambanan Cable Car Attraction in Sleman
Sleman Regency is poised to gain a new tourist destination in the form of a cable car attraction named Prambanan Heritage Skyline. The attraction is planned to stretch 8 kilometres, connecting several tourist sites including Tebing Breksi, Candi Banyunibo, and Candi Miri.
The Head of the Land and Spatial Planning Agency (Dispertaru) of Sleman Regency, Dona Saputra Ginting, stated that the initial study identifies three main segments. However, this is flexible and may change according to government policy.
“That study serves as material for policy-making. So, the policy might differ slightly from the study,” Dona said when contacted by reporters on Friday (8/5/2026).
He explained that Area 1 is planned as the starting station at Candi Banyunibo. Meanwhile, Area 2 is the transit station at Candi Miri. Finally, Area 3 is the end station at Tebing Breksi.
“This is the plan, but note that it is still under study. So, adjustments are possible,” he clarified.
Furthermore, Dona explained that the permitting process for this project is ongoing, particularly regarding KKPR or Spatial Utilisation Activity Compliance.
This is because some land used for the cable car project is classified as Raw Rice Field Land (LBS) and Protected Rice Field Land (LSD). Therefore, they are currently cleansing the data for those lands.
“In spatial planning, we are now processing the submission for LBS cleansing because some development points fall into LSD and LBS,” he said.
Dona continued that they have coordinated with the regent, including the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency, to subsequently submit the LBS data to the central government.
“We have proposed it as part of the LBS cleansing. So that it will no longer be included in the LBS zone,” he revealed.
Previously, the Head of the Investment and One-Stop Integrated Services Agency (DPMPTSP) of Sleman, Triana Wahyuningsih, mentioned receiving an investment offer in Kapanewon Prambanan. The project is a cable car tourist attraction with an investment value of around Rp 200 billion.
She noted that the idea for building the cable car came purely from the investor. The Sleman Regency Government supports every incoming investment as it is deemed capable of increasing regional original revenue (PAD).
“It is truly the investor’s idea. The Sleman Regency Government will support every investment because it relates to increasing PAD; with the cable car, entertainment taxes and the like can come in,” Triana told reporters on Thursday (7/5).
Triana said the Sleman Regency Government is also assisting with the project’s permitting process. According to her, the initial stage that must be fulfilled is KKPR or Spatial Utilisation Activity Compliance.
From the spatial planning study, the project location is said to be suitable for artificial tourism development.
“Initially, it must have KKPR first, spatial compliance. If the spatial planning is already suitable there for artificial tourism development activities,” she said.
