Overturned Box Truck Strikes Pedestrian on Denpasar-Gilimanuk Route After Driver Swerves to Avoid Motorcycle
A box truck overturned on the Yeh Nu bridge in Banjar Dinas Penyalin, Samsam Village, Kerambitan District, Tabanan, on the afternoon of the incident. The vehicle struck a pedestrian, causing traffic congestion on the Denpasar-Gilimanuk route.
According to Kerambitan Police Chief Kompol I Kadek Ardika, the box truck was being driven by Indin Sugiar with assistant driver Andry Surosxy, travelling from west (Gilimanuk) towards east (Denpasar). Upon reaching the location, a motorcycle from the opposite direction attempted an illegal overtaking manoeuvre, crossing into the oncoming traffic lane. The truck driver suddenly swerved left to avoid a collision, causing the vehicle to overturn on the bridge.
“A pedestrian was also struck by the overturned truck,” Ardika stated.
Police investigations at the scene confirmed the truck driver sustained minor injuries. The assistant driver suffered a fractured left leg and abrasions on the right leg but remained conscious. The pedestrian, identified as Muhamad Riski, sustained abrasions on both legs, both hands, and his head, and reported pain in his right hand but remained conscious.
“Both victims have been transported to Tabanan General Hospital for treatment,” Ardika said.
The incident caused significant traffic congestion in both directions at the location, which was exacerbated by the high volume of returning holiday travellers heading towards Gilimanuk.
