Overtime Pay Discontinued as Indomaret Workers Protest at PIK Tower

Indomaret workers staged a protest outside the Indomaret Tower in Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK), North Jakarta, on Tuesday (26 May 2026), over changes to overtime pay policies on public holidays. The new rule replaces overtime payments with compensatory leave for staff working on national holidays.

Protesters came from various regions including Jakarta, Tangerang, Bogor, and Purwakarta, arriving by motorcycle convoys and buses. Winda Ayu Kisnanti, an Indomaret employee from Tangerang branch 1, said the changes took effect in May 2026, with overtime pay no longer being issued and replaced by leave days. She stressed that overtime earnings are crucial for daily living expenses, stating, “It’s extremely important because not everyone has sufficient household needs or personal obligations. It’s not just the Rp400,000 figure, but the household requirements are more important than assumed.”

Ahmad Saifudin, from Tangerang branch 2, claimed intimidation by management since early May across all national branches, with Area Supervisors, Managers, and higher officials pressuring staff to sign agreements on the new overtime scheme.
