The KPK Oversight Board has not yet summoned the KPK leadership regarding public complaints about the change in detention status for the suspect in the alleged Hajj quota corruption case, who is also the former Minister of Religious Affairs for the 2020-2024 period, Yaqut Cholil Qoumas. This was directly stated by KPK Chairman Setyo Budiyanto. “Yes, the leadership has not [received a summons from the KPK Oversight Board]. But perhaps more specifically, that should be asked to the Oversight Board,” Setyo told reporters at the KPK’s Red White Building in South Jakarta on Tuesday (7/4). Regarding himself specifically, who was named in the complaint, Setyo asked to wait for the Oversight Board’s process. “Yes, let’s just wait for the process,” he said. Previously, the Indonesian Anti-Corruption Society (MAKI) submitted a complaint to the KPK Oversight Board regarding the alleged violation in changing the detention status of the Hajj quota corruption suspect Yaqut to house arrest on Wednesday (25/3). MAKI Coordinator Boyamin Saiman revealed that several parties were reported, namely the KPK leadership as a whole, KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo, and KPK Deputy for Enforcement and Execution Asep Guntur Rahayu. KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo stated that Yaqut’s detention in the State Detention Centre (Rutan) being changed to house arrest was in accordance with procedures and legal provisions. Budi explained that the change in detention status followed up on Yaqut’s family’s request, which was granted considering Article 108 paragraphs 1 and 11 of Law Number 20 of 2025 on the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP). Meanwhile, the KPK Oversight Board itself has stated that it will follow up on the public complaints. The KPK Oversight Board has received and disposed of every incoming complaint to be followed up since Monday, 30 March. The KPK Oversight Board claims it will handle the complaints in accordance with applicable provisions and standard operational procedures (POB). “We greatly appreciate the public’s role in overseeing the enforcement of law at the KPK. We will continue to monitor the handling of this case, especially ethically,” said KPK Oversight Board Chairman Gusrizal last Wednesday, quoted from the KPK website.
