Overseeing Energy Diplomacy, Bahlil Pledges to Safeguard Domestic Supply for National Resilience
Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bahlil Lahadalia, has emphasised that his ministry will oversee Indonesia’s energy diplomacy to maintain the stability of the national energy supply. He made this statement while accompanying President Prabowo Subianto on his working visit to Russia.
He assured that negotiations on Indonesia-Russia energy cooperation are being conducted concretely, with an orientation towards national interests.
“This visit is an important momentum to ensure that the national energy supply remains secure and to strengthen national energy resilience,” Bahlil said in his statement on Tuesday, 14 April 2026.
He explained that the targeted areas of cooperation include efforts to guarantee energy supplies and to encourage investments in the energy sector. The government will oversee the implementation of cooperation opportunities to ensure they are realised promptly, including the development of oil refineries, strengthening oil trade, and enhancing the utilisation of energy technology.
“In the long term, Indonesia is also opening opportunities for collaboration in the clean energy sector as an effort directed towards supporting energy diversification,” Bahlil stated.
Meanwhile, during his bilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin Palace in Moscow, Russia, on Monday, 13 April 2026, President Prabowo Subianto also reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to strengthening strategic relations with Russia in the energy sector.
According to the President, strengthening energy cooperation is important for maintaining national economic stability amid global geopolitical dynamics.
“Therefore, we feel it is very necessary to consult on how we face future situations, and especially if we can continue to strengthen cooperation, particularly in the fields of economy and energy,” Prabowo said.
Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that opportunities for cooperation between Russia and Indonesia are open in strategic sectors, especially energy.
“The two countries cooperate very closely and interact very well in various international forums. Indonesia has become a member of BRICS, which opens new opportunities for developing our cooperation,” Putin said.
The government hopes that the negotiations on cooperation between the two countries can support the strengthening of national energy resilience while maintaining economic stability amid global dynamics.
