Overflowing Congregation, Some Residents Perform Eid Prayer in Church Courtyard in Malang
Residents of Malang City performed Eid al-Fitr prayers today. The Eid prayer congregation overflowed, utilising the courtyard of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Malang.
According to Antara, Saturday (21/3/2026), the locations for Eid prayer worship in Malang City were spread evenly, from streets in residential areas to protocol routes.
The larger-scale Eid prayer worship was evident in the area of the Grand Jami’ Mosque in Malang.
Thousands of residents filled the area since around 05:00 WIB. Due to limited capacity in the Grand Jami’ Mosque area, the community performed prayers on several surrounding streets, such as Jalan MGR Sugiyopranoto, Jalan Basuki Rahmat or the Kayutangan Heritage area, and Jalan Alun-alun Merdeka Utara.
Specifically on Jalan MGR Sugiyopranoto, the Eid prayer had to use the courtyard of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. The arrival of the congregation received a warm welcome from the church officials.
The Eid prayer at the Grand Jami’ Mosque in Malang concluded around 07:00 WIB. After the worship, the community shook hands, and some were heard offering apologies.
Meanwhile, Malang Mayor Wahyu Hidayat stated that the Eid al-Fitr moment brings a new spirit to continue building Malang City’s progress together.
“Certainly, the Eid al-Fitr momentum can be used as a means to strengthen togetherness and tighten silaturahim to foster a new spirit in building Malang City,” said Wahyu in his welcoming speech at the Eid prayer in the Grand Jami’ Mosque.
Wahyu conveyed that strong silaturahmi ties between the community and the government form the foundation for realising regional progress.
He assured that the Malang City Government (Pemkot) will always strive to encourage community involvement in creating governance fully oriented towards improving human resources, economic growth, and public welfare.
He assured that the government always opens itself to every resident who wishes to participate and contribute to efforts to advance all aspects of life broadly.
