Over 62,000 vehicles head to Jakarta via Cikampek toll
A total of 62,527 vehicles were recorded heading to Jakarta via the Cikampek Utama, or Cikatama, gate in Karawang, West Java, underscoring sustained pressure on key routes during the post-holiday return period.
JTT Vice President for Corporate Secretary and Legal Affairs Ria Marlinda Paalo said about 23,000 vehicles were recorded during the first shift on Wednesday alone, indicating traffic volumes remained elevated.
The figures followed a higher count on Tuesday, when about 106,000 vehicles passed through the same toll gate toward Jakarta.
“Our monitoring shows traffic on the Palimanan-Kanci section also remains relatively high, so we continue to observe conditions closely as traffic management measures are implemented based on the situation,” Ria told reporters near the Cikampek Utama toll gate on Wednesday evening.
She said traffic engineering measures remain flexible and are adjusted in real time in coordination with police.
At 8:52 p.m. local time, JTT halted a contraflow arrangement between kilometer 70 and kilometer 47 on the Jakarta-Cikampek toll road toward Jakarta, following police discretion.
To accommodate the heavy return flow, JTT has activated 18 toll booths for vehicles traveling westbound from the Trans-Java network toward Jakarta.
Meanwhile, 12 booths remain in operation for vehicles traveling eastbound from Jakarta to other parts of the Trans-Java toll road.
Ria said the company will continue to monitor traffic volumes through Sunday (March 29), which is projected to mark the peak of the return flow.
“We estimate around 91,000 vehicles will pass through the Cikampek Utama toll gate on March 29,” she said.
Traffic management strategies, including contraflow adjustments and the temporary opening and closing of rest areas, will continue to be coordinated with police depending on conditions.
Authorities have urged motorists to remain cautious and follow official guidance to ensure smooth and safe travel during the return period.
