Over 3.5 Million People Utilise Friendly Mosque Services for 2026 Travellers
The Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag) recorded 3,592,348 Eid travellers utilising the Friendly Mosque Services (MRP) during the outbound and return flow for Idul Fitri 1447 H/2026 AD. These services were available at 6,859 mosques across Indonesia, prepared from H-9 to H+7 of Lebaran. This figure does not include travellers who used viharas, churches, and places of worship of various religions that also provided traveller-friendly services during the Lebaran holiday. Director General of Community Guidance, Abu Rokhmad, stated that the number of beneficiaries of this programme has increased significantly compared to the previous year. In 2025, the number of travellers stopping by was recorded at 1,617,641 people, even though services were prepared at 8,710 mosques at that time. “This year, the number of travellers utilising the Friendly Mosque Services reached more than 3.5 million people. This shows a very significant increase compared to last year,” said Abu Rokhmad in Jakarta on Monday (6/4/2026). He explained that the surge in visitors reflects growing public trust in services based on places of worship. According to him, mosques are now not only understood as places of worship but also as open public service spaces for anyone. Abu Rokhmad assessed that the position of mosques located on strategic routes such as Pantura, Trans Jawa, and Trans Sumatera is an important factor in supporting traveller comfort. The accessibility of mosques makes them a practical and safe choice for rest stops. “Mosques have basic facilities needed by travellers, such as places of worship, clean water, and rest areas. When managed well, mosques can become an oasis in the midst of long journeys,” he explained.
