Over 2,600 logs seized

PALANGKARAYA, Central Kalimantan: The local administration has seized 2,618 illegal logs scattered over several areas formerly owned by forest concession holder PT Djajanti Jaya, Antara reported on Sunday.

Spokesman for North Barito regency administration, Yosep Stalin, said proper documents were not attached to the logs, locally known as ulin.

Tauhudin Noor DS, who leads a team of forestry research and information-gathering set up by the local legislature, said that the logs, which were claimed by PT Daya Guna Samudera, were seized when they were about to be transported to PT Avona Mina Lestari in Fak-fak, Irian Jaya.

The regional regulation passed on March 14 bans any cross- regency trade of the logs. (01)
