Over 250,000 Train Passengers Avail of 30 Per Cent Fare Discount
Jakarta — PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Regional Operations 1 Jakarta revealed that approximately 257,000 prospective passengers have taken advantage of fare discounts of up to 30 per cent for commercial economy-class trains during the 2026 Eid transport season.
“The programme applies to journeys from 14–29 March 2026,” said Franoto Wibowo, Public Relations Manager for PT KAI Regional Operations (Daop) 1 Jakarta, in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Nationally, approximately 1.2 million seats have been made available, whilst the PT KAI Daop 1 Jakarta region specifically has approximately 329,000 seats available, with approximately 72,000 seats still remaining.
The favourite destination stations for passenger departures include Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Semarang. However, KAI Daop 1 Jakarta has not yet provided detailed data on the number of tickets booked for each destination.
During the 2026 Eid transport season, which runs until 1 April 2026 (10 days before Eid), 27,021 long-distance train passengers departed from the KAI Daop 1 Jakarta region. Meanwhile, 15,509 passengers arrived at various stations within the Daop 1 Jakarta region.
“As we approach the peak holiday period, movement of train passengers from the Daop 1 Jakarta region is beginning to increase compared to previous days. This trend is expected to continue rising as the peak exodus draws closer,” said Franoto.
According to data from 10 March 2026, of the total 1,076,196 seats provided during the 2026 Eid transport season, 655,840 tickets have been sold, representing approximately 61 per cent of total capacity.
Consequently, approximately 400,000 seats remain available for the public to use for various departure dates during the Eid transport period from 11 March to 1 April 2026.
“Booking data shows that the period from 11–20 March 2026 represents the period with the highest booking rate during the initial exodus phase. During this timeframe, 437,127 tickets were booked by the public,” said Franoto.
