The Financial Services Authority (OJK) has stated it continues to encourage and strengthen the national banking industry, one of which is through the implementation of consolidation policies. In this case, People’s Economy Banks and Sharia People’s Economy Banks (BPR/BPRS) under the same ownership and/or controlling shareholder group are undergoing a consolidation process as stipulated in POJK Number 7 of 2024 concerning BPR and BPRS.

The Chief Executive of Banking Supervision at OJK, Dian Ediana Rae, said the consolidation aims to strengthen the capital and competitiveness of BPR/BPRS through the implementation of governance and risk management, fulfilment of organisational structures, improvement of financial performance, and efficient management.

"Thus, successful consolidation can realise the vision and mission of BPR/BPRS as stated in the BPR/BPRS Development Roadmap 2024-2027, which is to become BPR/BPRS that are integrity-driven, resilient, adaptive, competitive, and contributive in driving the economy in their regions," said Dian in a statement quoted on Thursday (23/7/2026).

Regarding the consolidation efforts of the BPR/BPRS industry, he conveyed that the process of merging BPR/BPRS continues to increase and is still ongoing. As of the end of June 2026, 81 BPR/BPRS have been approved for consolidation into 24 BPR/BPRS, while more than 200 BPR/BPRS are still in the licensing process for mergers or amalgamations at the OJK.

Furthermore, Dian stated that his party will provide support for efforts to strengthen bank capital, including the entry of new strategic investors, as long as it complies with regulations and has a positive impact on bank performance, as well as supporting a healthier, more efficient, more competitive national banking sector that contributes to the national economy.
