Over 2,200 women and children victims of violence reported in Jakarta in 2025
The Jakarta Department of Empowerment, Protection of Children, and Population Control (PPAPP) has received more than 2,200 reports of violence against women and children throughout 2025, some of which involve violence in the digital realm.
The Head of the Jakarta PPAPP, Dr Dwi Octavia Handayani, revealed that the number of female and child victims in these reports is evenly split, at approximately 50 per cent each.
“In the past year, 2025, we received reports of more than 2,200 children and women becoming victims of violence in Jakarta. The cases for women and children are balanced, around 50-50, and some of them involve violence in the digital world,” said Dwi after attending the HerTech: Empowered Women with AI training at the LKBN ANTARA office, Jakarta, on Thursday (1/10).
One form of violence that is increasingly prevalent and targeting students is Online Gender-Based Violence (OGBV), which includes the manipulation of photos and faces using Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology to create indecent content.
“Parents, especially mothers, must understand this technology so that we can protect ourselves, our children, and our families from the risks of violence, both physical and in cyberspace,” she stated.
Consequently, she encouraged women to position themselves as controllers of technology, rather than victims of digital advancement.
The training, titled HerTech: Empowered Women with AI, was organised by the Indonesian Women’s Business and Professional Federation (BPW Indonesia) in collaboration with the Jakarta Women’s Organisation Cooperation Body (BKOW), the Jakarta PPAPP Department, and ICT Watch.
