Iran’s Ministry of Heritage, Culture and Tourism has stated that attacks by the United States and Israel have destroyed more than 100 historical sites across the country.

“The number of historical and cultural sites damaged due to attacks by the US and the Zionist regime in various locations has reached 108,” said the ministry, as quoted by the Tasnim news agency on Tuesday (17 March).

Of these, 60 sites are located in Tehran, 19 in Isfahan, and 12 in the northwestern Kurdish province.

On 28 February, the United States and Israel launched strikes against numerous targets in Iran, including Tehran. The attacks caused widespread damage and civilian casualties, and resulted in the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Iran subsequently retaliated against this military aggression by launching attacks on Israeli territory and US military targets throughout the Middle East.

An Iranian military adviser has predicted that a potential conflict with the US would conclude before 21 March. Iran has also accused the European Union of hypocrisy and double standards following criticism by the bloc’s foreign policy chief of Hezbollah’s attacks on Israel.

The US government has called upon Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Australia, Canada, Jordan, Japan, South Korea and Gulf nations to join a coalition in response to Iranian actions. Iran has stated that it has attacked Victoria Base in Iraq, Ali al-Salem air base in Kuwait, and Prince Sultan air base in Saudi Arabia.
