Over 100 Percent of Long-Distance Train Tickets Sold During Eid 2026
Ticket sales for trains during the 2026 Eid holiday reached 110.7 percent, surpassing the targeted figure. Cumulatively, sales for the Eid transportation period up to 31 March 2026 at 10:00 WIB amounted to 4.97 million tickets out of a total capacity of 4.5 million seats, or 110.7 percent. The breakdown includes 4.17 million passengers for long-distance train services, or 116.8 percent of the 3.57 million seat capacity, and 807,844 passengers for local trains, or 87.2 percent of the 926,936 seat capacity. “Since mid-March, passenger volume has continued to increase and remained high until the return phase. Trains are chosen for their schedule certainty and travel comfort,” said Vice President of Corporate Communication at KAI, Anne Purba, in an official statement on Tuesday (31/3/2026). The increase in volume occurred gradually and peaked during the return phase. The daily volume of long-distance train passengers showed a significant upward trend, particularly during the 22-24 March period, which was the highest phase, with 242,810, 247,025, and 250,650 passengers per day respectively. “Passenger movement is not concentrated at a specific time. This pattern keeps the return flow high, with passenger flow maintained throughout the period,” she said. Throughout the 2026 Eid holiday period, KAI operated 8,844 train trips with an on-time departure rate of 99.80 percent and an on-time arrival rate of 98.86 percent.
