Over 1,300 Iranian civilians killed in brutal US–Israel military assault
A week has passed since Israel, aided by the United States (US), attacked Iranian territory in late February 2026. To date, the death toll among civilians in the Islamic Republic has continued to mount. Al Jazeera reported on Sunday (8 March 2026) that more than 1,300 Iranian civilians were killed in air strikes carried out by the Israeli and US militaries. Disturbingly, around 30 percent of all the fatalities are children.
According to UNICEF, the attack by the Israel-US alliance also destroyed much of Iran’s public infrastructure. At least 20 schools and 10 hospitals were destroyed as a result of the aggressors’ bombardment. Iran’s Red Crescent Society said that 6,668 civilian settlements had been targeted by the US and Israel. The figure includes thousands of homes and dozens of public service facilities.
Anadolu Agency reported that Iran’s aid organisations said the attack hit a large amount of civilian infrastructure across the country. According to the statement, 5,535 residential buildings, 1,041 commercial units, 14 health facilities, 65 schools, and 13 Red Crescent-affiliated facilities were among the affected sites. The organisation also reported that several aid and rescue vehicles were damaged in the attack, while some aid workers and Red Crescent staff were injured. The statement emphasised that the US- and Israel-targeted attacks on civilians violate the Geneva Conventions. International bodies, humanitarian organisations, and human rights advocates are urged to take immediate and effective action to protect civilian lives, guarantee the safety of aid workers, and ensure respect for international humanitarian law,” he added.
