The Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY) government has taken several steps in response to the revelation of an alleged child abuse case at the Little Aresha daycare in Umbulharjo, Jogja. One of these involves evaluating licensing and operational supervision of daycares. Head of the Department of Women’s Empowerment, Child Protection, and Population Control (DP3AP2) DIY, Erlina Hidayati Sumardi, stated that her office, along with the DIY Family Planning Coordinating Board (FPKK), the City of Jogja DP3AP2KB, and the City of Jogja Child Protection Commission (KPAI), has taken and will continue to implement protective measures. “Providing psychosocial support for the child victims and assistance to families through integrated services. Coordinating with relevant agencies to ensure optimal and sustainable recovery for the victims,” explained Erlina, as reported by detikJogja on Sunday (26/4/2026). In addition, according to Erlina, preventive measures are being prepared to avoid similar incidents. These include educating the public on children’s rights and the importance of choosing safe, reliable, and verified childcare services. “Conducting a joint evaluation of the supervision and licensing system for childcare institutions, including daycares, to ensure child protection standards are met,” she stated. “Strengthening complaint mechanisms and rapid response to allegations of violence against women and children,” Erlina added.
