Universitas Indonesia (UI) has spoken out regarding allegations of sexual harassment involving students at the UI Faculty of Law.

UI Rector Heri Hermansyah emphasised his commitment to addressing every case of harassment up to sexual violence on campus.

“We will monitor it together. We fight sexual violence,” said Heri, quoted by detikcom on Monday (13/4).

Heri stated that he had only recently learned of the information and was awaiting a report from the faculty.

“I only heard about it last night. And I have already asked the dean, waiting for a response,” he added.

He mentioned that the rectorate was also following the case developments through circulating news reports. The rectorate, he continued, would monitor the handling of the case at the faculty level.

“But I am also paying attention through various media. The Dean of the Faculty of Law has responded. So, at the Rectorate, we will monitor how it is handled at the faculty,” he said.

He also stressed that the campus side would ensure the handling process runs according to procedure. UI, he added, is committed to creating a safe campus environment free from sexual violence for the entire academic community.

Previously, screenshots of conversations from a UI Faculty of Law student chat group went viral. The conversations by the students were indicated to fall into the category of sexual violence.

In its official Instagram post, the Dean of FH UI stated that the faculty received a report of the case on 12 April 2026.

“On 12 April 2026, the Faculty received a report regarding alleged violations of the code of ethics that also potentially contain elements of criminal acts, related to activities of some students,” wrote the Dean of FH UI, quoted from Instagram.

From the report, the Dean of FH UI finally learned of the screenshots of their students’ conversations in the chat group. The conversations contained inappropriate content and were indicated to constitute sexual violence.

“The Faculty strongly condemns all forms of behaviour that degrade human dignity and contradict legal and academic ethical values,” stated FH UI.

After receiving the report, the Dean of FH UI is conducting a thorough investigation and verification of this case. If violations are found, they promise to take firm action.

“If violations are found, including those potentially violating criminal law, the Faculty will take firm steps in accordance with applicable provisions and coordinate with relevant authorities,” they continued.
