Outrage as Man Steals Rp 700,000 from Elderly Nasi Uduk Vendor in Bekasi
A video of a man stealing money belonging to an elderly nasi uduk vendor in Bekasi, West Java, has gone viral on social media. Police are investigating the case.
In the viral footage, the perpetrator can be seen diverting the elderly woman’s attention by ordering nasi uduk. As she wrapped the order, the man stole her money from a biscuit tin.
The incident occurred on Jalan Bulak Tinggi, Pondok Melati, Bekasi, on Tuesday (17 February) at approximately 07.30 local time. Only the elderly vendor and the perpetrator were present at the location that morning.
The masked man moved behind the woman as she was preparing the nasi uduk. He then shifted the biscuit tin and took the money inside it.
Shortly afterwards, the man fled on a motorcycle whilst the vendor was still preparing his order. The amount stolen was reported to be Rp 700,000.
Police are investigating the theft. Officers visited the elderly vendor, but the victim said she had accepted the loss and let go of the stolen money.
“Information from the Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit at Pondok Gede Police Station indicates that the victim was unwilling to file a report and has accepted the loss,” said AKP Suparyono, Head of Public Relations at Bekasi City Metropolitan Police, on Thursday (19 February 2026).
Although the victim did not file a police report, officers are continuing their investigation. Police have taken statements from witnesses and are gathering evidence related to the case.
“Preliminary steps have been taken. The case is being handled by Pondok Gede Police Station,” he said.
Police have also secured CCTV recordings as part of the investigation. The identity of the man who stole the elderly woman’s money is still being determined.
“The CCTV recordings have been seized and the perpetrator is being sought,” he said.
