Outrage as Brawl Erupts in Cokroaminoto, Yogyakarta, Over Unpaid Escort Fees

A video of an incident in the Cokroaminoto area, Tegalrejo, Yogyakarta, has caused a stir on social media. The circulating narrative states that the incident occurred because the perpetrator did not pay for escort services.

The brawl occurred on Saturday (16/5/2026) early this morning. In a video uploaded to the Instagram account @merapi_uncover, it is mentioned that there was a man who did not pay for escort services and was carrying a sharp weapon.

As a result, an argument occurred between the suspect and a woman. In addition, several people helped to secure the man.

The Head of the Tegalrejo Police, Kompol Ahmat Djaeni, when asked for confirmation, confirmed the incident. He said that officers had brought the parties involved to the office for clarification.

Ahmat said that when the suspect was secured, he still smelled of alcohol.

“Yes (he has been brought to the office for clarification). But this morning he still smelled of alcohol,” said Ahmat when contacted by reporters, Saturday (16/5).

He added that further information regarding the chronology of the incident and follow-up actions would be provided soon.

“Complete information will be provided by the public relations officer of the police department,” he concluded.
