Outpaced by AGO in MBG Probe, KPK Considers Next Steps
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is still awaiting the results of a case review to investigate alleged corruption in the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme managed by the National Nutrition Agency (BGN). The KPK has not yet confirmed whether it will continue its own investigation into the MBG’s governance. This follows the Attorney General’s Office (AGO) taking the lead in probing the alleged MBG corruption. The AGO has already detained three senior BGN officials. This situation has left the KPK in a dilemma over investigating an MBG case that has already been taken up by the AGO. “That’s right, we actually had an inquiry, but then another law enforcement agency (AGO) upgraded its process to the investigation stage, so according to statutory provisions, there cannot be a dualism of investigations,” said Acting Director of Investigation at the KPK, Achmad Taufik Husein, as quoted on Tuesday (9/6/2026). The KPK therefore plans to communicate with the AGO to discuss the follow-up to the MBG case investigation. The KPK is open to providing supporting data to the AGO. “Of course, we will also look at the synergy, whether we will develop it for the investigation process, whether that data will later be given to the Prosecutor’s Office,” said Taufik. However, the KPK will only decide its stance on the MBG case investigation once the case review is complete. The results will later serve as a reference for the KPK leadership. “We will wait for the results of the case review, to see what the leadership decides,” said Taufik.
