Outcry over Sexual Assault Allegations at UPN Veteran Yogyakarta as Campus Speaks Out
Viral on social media are allegations of sexual violence involving one lecturer at UPN Veteran Yogyakarta. The campus says it will investigate the allegation.
The incident went viral after being posted on the social media platform X. The post by the account @onlonenyside states that the alleged perpetrator is a lecturer in the Agrotechnology Study Programme, Faculty of Agriculture.
In the thread, the alleged perpetrator’s modus operandi include inviting someone to meals or to watch something, asking for help with proofreading, asking to accompany them to a community service location, and providing job vacancy information as well as offering to drop someone to work. The case is said to have existed since 2022.
In response, the campus through the Violence Prevention and Handling Task Force (PPK) issued a response. The head of the PPK UPNVY Dr. Iva Rachmawati, S.IP., M.Si in a written statement expressed deep concern over information circulating on social media regarding alleged sexual violence within the UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta.
‘We understand that this situation can generate a sense of insecurity, worry, and psychological impact for victims as well as the academic community,’ Iva said in the written statement received by detikJogja on Tuesday (19/5/2026).
‘We also understand that not all victims have the psychological, social, or academic readiness to immediately lodge an official report,’ she continued.
She noted that fear of stigma, power relations, peer pressure, environmental pressures, and concerns about academic impact often hinder the reporting process.
In light of this situation, the PPK continues to conduct tracing and investigation in an objective, professional manner, underpinned by the principle of protecting victims.
‘Any information and evidence received will be followed up carefully in accordance with the applicable mechanisms,’ she said.
‘UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta does not tolerate any form of violence. The campus is committed to creating a safe, inclusive educational environment and free from all forms of violence or abuse of power relations,’ she asserted.
The PPK also prioritises protection for victims by providing safe spaces, support services, and reporting mechanisms that guarantee confidentiality and safety for both the victim and the reporter.

‘Every report, no matter how small, matters in helping protect victims, strengthening the handling process, and preventing similar incidents from recurring. The safety and sense of security of the academic community are a shared responsibility,’ she concluded.
