Outcry Over 'Pig Feast' Documentary as Mama Sinta Reports Merauke LBH Chairperson to Jakarta Police
Indigenous environmental activist and community leader from Merauke, South Papua, Yasinta Moiwend, known as Mama Sinta, has formally taken the matter of the documentary ‘Pig Feast’ to legal proceedings. Mama Sinta reported JTW, the chairman of Merauke Legal Aid Institute (LBH), to the Jakarta Metropolitan Police for featuring her face and identity in the film without consent. The complaint was registered under case number LP/B/3843/V/2026/SPKT/Polda Metro Jaya dated 29 May 2026.
Mama Sinta’s legal representative, TS Hamonangan Daulay, stated that the accused is an individual holding the position of LBH Merauke chairman. ‘This report concerns an individual, specifically the chairman of LBH Merauke whose initials are JTW,’ he said.
He added that the complaint relates to the alleged violation of Mama Sinta’s privacy and personal rights through the documentary’s screening. ‘The reason for reporting is to protect Mama Sinta’s confidentiality. We await the official press release from Jakarta Metropolitan Police as the case has now entered the substantive stage,’ he said.
The complainant cited the Personal Data Protection Law (UU PDP) as the legal basis, specifically articles 65 and 67. ‘We have submitted under Articles 65 and 67 of the Personal Data Protection Law,’ he stated.
Mama Sinta expressed deep distress over the documentary being screened without her permission or prior communication. She learned of the screenings in April, including at Maranatha in Jayapura. ‘What I experienced began on 8 April. The film was shown in Jayapura at Maranatha without my consent. They’ve been screening the ’Pig Feast’ documentary everywhere, which has left me heartbroken and deeply disappointed. Without my permission or discussion, they are criminals! My face is everywhere in this film, and I’m upset. That’s why I came to Jakarta,’ Mama Sinta said.
