A baby girl’s body was found by residents on Jalan Kelapa Gading, Cilandak District, South Jakarta. The body was found inside a bin.

“A witness saw something suspicious in the bin,” said Cilandak Police Chief Kompol Gusprihatin Zen to reporters, Thursday (26/2/2026).

The discovery of the baby occurred on Wednesday (25/2) afternoon. Residents touched the baby’s body using a piece of wood.

“When the witness looked, they poked it with a piece of wood, and it felt soft. When they looked closer, it was a baby’s body. A baby girl,” he said.

When found, the body was wrapped in a paper bag. The baby was confirmed to be dead after being examined by health workers.

“Yes, she was dead, according to the doctor from the community health center. She was taken to Fatmawati Hospital,” he said.

According to medical personnel, the baby was estimated to be only one day old. The police are currently searching for the perpetrator who abandoned the baby.

“We are still investigating the perpetrator,” he said.
