Outbreak of Diarrhea in North Lore

PALU, Central Sulawesi: Diarrhea has attacked the residents of North Lore district, Donggala regency in Central Sulawesi about 100 kilometers northwest of conflict-torn Poso during the past two weeks, claiming the life of one refugee from Sanginora village, Poso Pesisir.

North Lore district secretary Markus Beba said on Monday that currently there were 3,000 refugee families from Poso who were living in the district. They are being accommodated in makeshift shelters, churches, and local residents' homes.

He said that the district's public health center had run out of medicine, especially antibiotics and medicines for malaria, diarrhea and vomiting.

Markus urged the Poso Health Office and the Central Sulawesi administration to provide more medicine, clothes, and blankets for the refugees.

The government has terminated rice assistance and the daily allowance for the refugees still being provided food assistance is the equivalent of Rp 45,000 for each family. --Antara
