Our bank restructuring program
Our bank restructuring program
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) says that it cannot
control our bank restructuring program. According to the IMF that
should be done by the Indonesian government and the public.
We recognize the fact that political factors help to determine
the size and smooth running of our bank recapitalization program.
At present this program is being delayed by political
considerations. So is the withholding of aid by the International
Monetary Fund.
For this reason, our political elite must realize that what
they do can have a great influence on our economic and political
rehabilitation agenda. Financial institutions and market players
are most sensitive to their actions. Since we cannot isolate
ourselves from the world, our political elite should take the
aspirations of those institutions and the market into
consideration.
The most important thing is that this political elite listens
to the wishes of our people. If they do this there will be no
longer any reason for the IMF to refuse responsibility to share
in the responsibility for our bank restructuring program.
