The Indonesian Confederation of All Trade Unions (KSPSI) has stated that it respects the rights of other workers’ unions scheduling May Day 2026 celebrations outside the National Monument area.

KSPSI President Andi Gani Nena Wea said that KSPSI fully respects democratic principles, including the desire of other workers’ unions to celebrate International Labour Day in front of the DPR, MPR, and DPD complexes.

“We do not force them to join us at Monas. That is the democratic right of our fellow workers’ unions,” Andi said after the press conference on the May Day 2026 celebrations in the Menteng area, Wednesday, 29 April 2026.

Nevertheless, he reminded of the importance of unity and solidarity among the working class. Because, according to Andi, to achieve goals, workers’ unions need to unite in the struggle.

He said that no matter how large a workers’ confederation is, it cannot win the struggle alone. Victories for workers’ unions are achieved collectively.

“So, there is no being a lone hero because you feel big and then struggling alone; it won’t work. All victories in workers’ struggles are collective victories,” Andi stated.

Meanwhile, KSPSI will celebrate May Day 2026 at the Monas area together with several other workers’ unions such as KSBSI, KPBI, and online motorcycle taxi drivers.

The celebration is also scheduled to be attended by President Prabowo Subianto. Andi mentioned that the Head of State will give a surprise at the May Day celebration the day after tomorrow.

Previously, the workers’ unions planning to hold May Day in front of the Parliamentary Complex were the Labour Party, KSPI, and KASBI. However, the Labour Party and KSPI cancelled their agenda.

Labour Party President and KSPI President Said Iqbal said that his organisation will celebrate May Day 2026 at the Monas area. This decision was made after meeting with the President.

Meanwhile, KASBI still plans to hold May Day 2026 in front of the Parliamentary Complex. Through its Instagram account @konfederasikasbi_, the workers’ union led by Sunarno will celebrate May Day together with the Gerakan Buruh Bersama Rakyat (Gebrak) alliance.

In its post, KASBI and Gebrak demand decent wages for workers, the enactment of a pro-worker Employment Bill, and Indonesia’s foreign policy stance that firmly opposes imperialism.
