Other Countries Take Legal Action Against Israel Over GSF Activist Abuse – Indonesia's Response

Several countries are taking legal action against the brutal treatment by Israeli military forces towards participants of the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF). French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu announced legal action against the brutal actions of Israeli forces against French citizens who were GSF participants.

French government anger intensified after a video uploaded by Israel’s National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir on Wednesday, 20 May 2026, showed Israeli security forces forcing flotilla activists to kneel on the floor while bound. Ben-Gvir was seen making provocative statements about the participants in the video.

Malaysia also plans to take Israel to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) over alleged torture of GSF 2.0 activists. Twenty-eight Malaysian activists were reportedly abducted during the incident.

The Malaysian government is preparing legal action against Israel at the ICJ over allegations of abduction and torture of humanitarian flotilla activists heading to Gaza.

What is Indonesia’s response? Nine Indonesian citizens were victims of Israeli brutality during detention. The Ministry of Law and Human Rights is awaiting the Foreign Ministry’s official stance.

“Ministry of Law and Human Rights fully follows the Foreign Ministry’s policy as it is the government’s official stance,” said Special Staff of the Indonesian Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Thomas Harming Suwarta.

Meanwhile, the Foreign Ministry has not yet issued a stance similar to those countries pursuing legal action against Israel.
