Oso: Natural Disaster Budgets Must Always Be a Government Priority

The former Chairman of the Regional Representative Council (DPD) for the 2017-2019 period, Oesman Sapta (Oso), has requested that the Government pay serious attention to disaster management budgets. He believes that all ministries and agencies must maintain budgets that are ready for deployment whenever a natural disaster occurs.

This was stated by Oso during an appearance on the Indonesia Lawyers Club (ILC) programme, broadcast on the Official ILC YouTube channel on Friday, 11 September 2026.

“Natural disaster budgets must always be on standby and remain a priority across all ministries and agencies; there should be no delays whatsoever. This is because the people place their trust in the Central Government. Do not disappoint the local communities experiencing calamities,” said Oso.

According to him, delays in disaster assistance have the potential to cause public disappointment towards the Central Government. He requested that President Prabroll Subianto ensure his subordinates work swiftly in responding to emergency conditions.

Furthermore, Oso proposed that officials who are unresponsive in handling disasters should be subject to evaluation.
